Down a small track between two bungalows off Glebe Road in Upper Giilingham is one of the Medway Towns best kept secrets. Enclosed by gardens all around there exists three grass tennis courts which belong to The Avenue Lawn Tennis Club.
The Avenue Lawn Tennis Club was established towards the end of the First World War in 1918, on the site of an old bowls club. Inside the Club House, the names and years of former tournamnent winners on plaques lay testament to the history of the club.
The Cub is now privately owned, thus ensuring it's security. It is financed through Club membership and match fees, and the upkeep of the courts, garden and clubhouse are provided on a voluntary basis by club members.
Despite all this tradition, we are a friendly tennis club and we always welcome new members. So dust off your old tennis racket and please come and visit us and have a go at tennis. The Club offers coaching at various levels so if we cannot fit you in to Club play just yet, we can offer you the opportunity to improve your game.
